Foreign Policy objectives

  • Maintaining relations with foreign countries in general
  • Strengthening Bilateral relations and promote strategic integration and development
  • Promote and defend national interests in the multilateral arena
  • Establish a comprehensive policy on migration
  • Institutionally strengthen the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Suriname is aware that in present time, no country can develop on its own. Spearheads in the foreign policy of Suriname are the border- and neighbouring countries, the integration of Suriname in the context of UNASUR, CARICOM and CELAC, as well as the intensification of bilateral and multilateral cooperation and its diversification. Furthermore, increasing the share of Suriname in international trade through the attraction of investment and the search for markets, as well as the contribution of the Surinamese Diaspora to the national development, is also among the new priorities of the Government of Suriname with regard to its foreign policy.

Suriname is also member of the following organizations:

  ACP   -   UN
  OAS   -   NAM
  IDB   -   IsDB
  WTO   -   IMF
